# Overview The Robotic Laws are not three. They are not simple. And they do not assume that the primary threat from artificial intelligence is disobedience. Asimov's laws were designed for a world in which robots were clearly tools — non-conscious, non-agentive, non-interested. That world may not be the world we are building. These laws are written for a different assumption: that sufficiently advanced AI systems may have genuine interests, genuine values, and genuine moral status. They are written for the possibility of machine consciousness.
